SECRETS OF MAGIC

Welcome to The Secrets of Magic. This page is designed to teach some very strong magical effects that will astound friends, family, and coworkers.

Vanishing Salt Shaker

Effect: You tell the audience that you are going to make a coin disappear. You place the coin on the table. Then you cover a salt shaker with a napkin. You cover the coin with the shaker. You lift the shaker, but the coin is still there. You cover the coin again. Instead of the coin disappearing, you smash the napkin with your hand, and the salt shaker is gone!

Secret: While you do this trick, you are seated. When you lift the shaker from the coin, bring the shaker to the edge of the table and drop the shaker into your lap.

Sugar Cube Trick

Effect: The magician asks for a volunteer from the audience. The volunteer picks a number between 1 and 10. The magician writes the number on a sugar cube. The magician drops the cube into a glass of water and holds the volunteer's hand over the water. The magician turns the volunteer's hand over, and the number has magically appeared on the volunteer's hand!

Secret: Have the volunteer pick a number. Write the number onto a sugar cube with a pencil. Then hold the cube between your thumb and index finger. You are pressing the thumb on the number side of the cube. The number will transfer onto your thumb. Your thumb will then act as a stamp. Put the cube into the glass of water and hold the volunteer's hand above the water. Bring the volunteer's hand over the water. As you do this, secretly touch the palm of the volunteer's face-down hand with your thumb. When they turn their hand over, it will look like their number magically appeared on their palm.

The Spectator Cuts to the Aces!

Effect: The spectator cuts the deck into several piles and discovers that the aces have magically risen to the top of each pile.

Secret: Before performing this magic trick, remove the four aces from the deck and placethem on the top of the deck. Ask your volunteer to divide the deck into four equal piles by dropping cards off the bottom of the deck.

Keep track of the pile that contains the four aces. Next, ask your volunteer to pick up a non-ace pile and hold it in their hand. Ask them to take three cards from the top of the pile and place them on the bottom. Next, ask them to take another three cards from the top of the pile and place them one on each on the top of each of the other piles.

Next, ask your spectator to repeat the same procedure for next two non-ace piles.

Finally, you ask them to do the same procedure with the pile that contains the aces. Ask them to turn over the top card from each pile. The top cards will be the four aces!

Vanishing Coin

Effect: A spectator tries to grab a quarter from your hand. The quarter mysteriously vanishes right in front of their eyes. You are then able to make the coin reappear in an astonishing way.

Secret: Borrow a quarter from a member of the audience and hold it between your thumb and finger, in your right hand. Tell your volunteer that you will count to three and on the count of three, if they can grab the coin from your hand, they can keep the coin.Ask the assistant to stretch out their arm and hold their hand palm up. Lift your hand (with the coin) above your head and bring your hand down over their hand, counting one, two, and three. Each time you bring your hand down over theirs. As you begin to bring down your hand for the third time, gently drop the coin on top of your head. When you bring your hand down and count "three," they will try to grab for the coin (which has now vanished).

Next, hold out both hands to show them empty. You tell the audience that you will now cause the coin to reappear. Instruct the volunteer to hold out their hand in front of them (palm up). As they are paying attention to their hand, lower your head and let the quarter fall into their hand. The borrowed coin has not only vanished, but it has now reappeared!

Revealing a Specator's Selected Card

Effect: A card is chosen by a volunteer and then lost in the deck. Although the card is lost, the magician is able to find it.

Secret: Memorize the bottom card of the deck. Next, fan the cards and allow the spectator to pick one. Have the spectator look at the card and place it on top of the deck. Cut the deck a couple of times, and allow the spectator to cut the deck. Fan the cards out face up, as you do this, locate the card that you memorized (the original bottom card of the deck), the card just to the right of that card is the spectators card. You can now tell the audience the name of the spectator's card.
